Crested Pigeon

Ocyphaps lophotes

Description:

Stocky grey- brown pigeon with a top knot, red eyes and a pinkish tinge to its feathers

Habitat:

Urban survivors

Notes:

This pair decided they wanted to grab some of the seed that was being eaten by a large flock of racing pigeons (Rock Doves) and spent some time building their bravery (image one) Image 2 they raced in with their heads low and pecked as fast as they could go. Image three and four. Having escaped punishment from the rock doves they waddled off down the driveway constantly looking back and pretending they had not just got away with murder. It was very funny to watch. These pigeons walk like two little old ladies

Beautiful pigeons!! I never knew a crested one existed. We have thousands of pigeons all over our churches and monuments in Mexico and have had to put up spiky protectors on most of the Church ledges to prevent them from roosting and defecating. They are birds of great personality.
