Emperor Shrimp

Periclimenes imperator

Description:

Comensal shrimp (Palaemonidae) that can grow to 2 cm (3/4 in.). Typically red with prominent white pattern on head, back and tail. Orange claw arms with purple claws and joints. Comensal with several species of sea cucumbers and larger nudibranchs. Feed on detritus picked from the sea floor.

Habitat:

The emperor shrimp has a wide distribution across the Indo-Pacific. They live in water up to 45 metres (148 ft) in depth.
