Vamuna remelana
A long tiger moth with folded white wings. A black band is seen at the lower part of the white wings. This spotting is a male, the females have been spotted by Malcolm (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/196...) & (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/204...)
Around Kinabalu National Park, Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia.
>>>Map accuracy : 1km diameter. With identification help from Bayucca, I was able to get to get the right species ID - Vamuna remelana. This species was formerly placed under Arctiidae but now is under Erebidae.
There is no chance for Virilis spending holidays on Borneo?? ;-)... Thanks for pointing out these little, but important details... Next time I will be more careful with your archipelago...
Thank you for spending your time on this, Bayucca.
Malaysia is divided into Peninsular Malaysia (West) and East Malaysia.
Your suggested species is found in Peninsular Malaysia which is separated from East Malaysia (in Borneo) where I stay.
As for V. remelana, it's distribution covers both sides of the country.
Chun, I do not want to challenge your ID, but looking at this one, you won't see a thicker black outline as well in Virilis:

Geographical range: Both have reports from Malaysia.

And now??
Hi bayucca, I remember my moth well.
The black band and wing outline is much thicker in V. virilis.
As for V. remelana, it is recorded in Borneo.
Remelana didn't show up during my search and to be honest, I can't separate them by sight. Why do you think it is Remelana not Virilis?
Thank you everyone for all your comments.
Thanks Bayucca, with your suggestion, I managed to track down
it's ID - Vamuna remelana
Arctiidae, Arctiinae, Agylla virilis also called Vamuna virilis, female (!).
