White-bellied drongo

Dicrurus caerulescens

Description:

The white-bellied drongo (Dicrurus caerulescens) is a species of drongo found across the Indian Subcontinent. Like other members of the family Dicruridae, they are insectivorous and mainly black in colour, but with a white belly and vent. It is an all black bird with a distinctive forked tail. The species is known for its aggressive behaviour towards much larger birds, such as crows, never hesitating to dive-bomb any bird of prey that invades its territory. This behaviour earns it the informal name of king crow

Habitat:

The white-bellied drongo is a resident breeder in India and Sri Lanka. This species is usually found in dry scrub or open forests. The distribution is restricted to peninsular India south of the Himalayas and to the west of the Gangetic delta bounded on the west by the Aravallis.

Notes:

In this pic the bird is feeding its young one.

Wonderful spotting, Vinayak. They are beautiful birds. I see their relative, the spangled drongo, in Austalia. It is always a treat to see them.
