Horn-eyed Ghost Crab

Description:

Body to 40mm across. Horny stalks on top of eyes develop & lengthen with age. Dark maroon on lower surfaces of body & legs. 'H' marking on lower back.

Habitat:

Common on coastal sand beaches, intertidal zone: only found on open beach below frontal dunes. Northern Australia: Indo-West Pacific.

Notes:

Mainly active at night: fast-moving scavenger & predator.
