Description:

Atop the world's largest mountain, Mauna Loa, I found these beautiful orange and red flowers growing by the Kilauea caldera. Falling stars are also known as montbretia in the UK. It is an introduced species in Hawaii.

Habitat:

Spotted on the Kilauea Iki trailhead, approximate elevation 5000 ft.
