Falling star

Crocosmia sp.

Atop the world's largest mountain, Mauna Loa, I found these beautiful orange and red flowers growing by the Kilauea caldera. Falling stars are also known as montbretia in the UK. It is an introduced species in Hawaii.

Spotted on the Kilauea Iki trailhead, approximate elevation 5000 ft.
