Though this is listed as a sea duck it is also a diving duck.
This is the male Common Goldeneye. There 3 ducks in this family. Common, Barrow's and Bufflehead. The Common and Barrow's are most similar in the markings. Besides a few differences, one big difference is the white patch on the males face below the eye. The Common has more rounder shape as the Barrow's has more like a large teardrop or cresent shape.
The Goldeneye males have a dark head with green sheen and darl tail, white neck, sides and secondaries.
Breeding along lakes and rivers that bordered forests. Winters in marine waters, bays, harbors large inland lakes and rivers
Seen mostly females. Today I spotted the male.
