Kahili ginger

Hedychium gardnerianum

Description:

Spiky, orange flowers with red fruiting bodies. The leaves are very long (maybe 1.5 ft) and have parallel venation.

Habitat:

Seen in the tropical rainforest on Mauna Loa volcano, at altitude 4500 feet in Volcanoes National Park.

Notes:

Incredibly invasive and not Hawaiian. Kahili ginger is native to the Himalayas.
