Black Witch moth

Ascalapha odorata

Description:

large nocturnal moth, wingspan 15cm (6")

Habitat:

cloudforest, 2100m

Notes:

I spotted this moth about 10 minutes into my first hike in Chicaque Parque Natural. I was amazed to see it right on the trail in the morning. I had only seen this species on noah before so I was super happy to see it in the wild.
