Thanks Diane. They are really very similar.

That's pretty close Diane.. and just around the corner from rubens too :) Oooh.. I was just reading about how "In some cases, the sting may cause headache, nausea, and shock-like symptoms."

Thanks bayucca. The larva of this species is an old "friend" of mine. They really burns our skin when touched !!! Thank you for the quick answer !

Megalopygidae is safe, but genus and species are tricky. Most of them do not have a proper ID. Common +/- matching genus are Megalopyge (not Lantana, not Albicollis, not Opercularis) and Podalia (not Fuscescens, not Orsilochus).

My first sight guess is a Megalopygidae, but at second sight, I did not find a reasonable match. I'll keep an eye on this.

Hi Argy,

I was coming back from a walk in a park (in a high of 1000-2000m) and found this different moth in a wall. It´s not bigger than 5cm.

I am here, Rubens! I had it on my screen already this morning, but had to ID some of Karen's first, since I had all my windows open with links and pics. Now I am waiting for a crash, because my drive is full! I immediately knew this one would be a tricky one. I will come back for this one!
