I really like magpies, but in NZ they are considered a pest species (among many other). But I think it's an amazing bird, with no natural predators here, therefore it's not its fault it became abundant...Besides that, I used to see lots of them in South Island, and now that I am living in Wellington, I only see very few of them...
I know they were introduced to New Zealand, but they are still beautiful. I was also able to find the exact subspecies this Magpie is and the scientific name. Gymnorhina tibicen leuconota or the White-Backed Magpie occupies large areas of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. It interbreeds successfully with the Black-Backed Magpie.
