White-tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

Medium-sized deer native to the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America as far south as Peru. It has been introduced to New Zealand and some countries in Europe such as Finland, Czech Republic and Serbia. In North America it is most common east of the Rocky Mountains and is absent from much of the western United States including Nevada, Utah, California, Hawaii and Alaska.

Habitat:

Woodlands, farm fields, just about anywhere.

Notes:

I watched this doe for several years. I could tell her apart from others because of a cowlick on her neck. This was the first year that she produced triplets, and this is the first time that she brought them out to show me. I am standing only a few yards away.
