Yucca sp.

Description:

Flower spike to 2 metres. Newly planted yucca with flowers that really sell themselves at night time. Leaves seemed somewhat flaccid, small and pale bluish green... but might have been repressed by animal and human traffic.

Habitat:

Outside local hospital.

Notes:

These may well be an artificial hybrid developed by horticulturalists. Native to south western USA. Up to 50 species with apparent natural hybridisation occurring. Pollination is naturally performed by symbiotic relationships with specific moths at night. This didn't surprise me as they really seemed to stand out in the dark of night. If this is non-hybrid then Yucca recurvifolia is one common possibility. http://www.plantdelights.com/Yucca-recur...
