Pyrrhula pyrrhula
A couple of female Bullfinches spotted in trees feeding on berries at my home in Stafford. There was a group of 3 together. I've recently seen Male Bullfinches too in the same area. This species does not form large flocks outside the breeding season, and is usually seen as a pair or family group. Females are much less vivid than the males which have a bright red chest. Females are more brown with a blue tinge. Both sexes have black heads and dark coloured ends to their wings with blue tail feathers. Despite the bright colours of the males, they can be hard to spot amongst the leaves.
