Assassin bug

Rhynocoris ventralis

Description:

Medium-sized insect, smaller than the closely-related "bee assassins" in the genus Apiomerus. Otherwise very similar. Extremely wary and quick to fly.

Habitat:

Found this in a dry grassland bordering an artificial lake.

Notes:

More typically found in dry pine forests.
