Marbled Salamander

Ambystoma opacum

Description:

A boldly marked salamander, black dorsal coloring with white or silver-gray bands from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. One of the smallest "mole salamanders", it is generally around 10 cm full grown. The species is sexually dimorphic, the males being smaller with silvery-white bands, and the females larger with silvery-gray bands. Feeds on large amounts of small arthropods.

Habitat:

commonly found in deciduous woodland, near water sources. Often found under rocks or logs.
