Ypthima stellera stellera
Ypthima stellera (Eschscholtz, 1821), a five-ring butterfly of family Nymphalidae. Ssp. occurring in Luzon is Ypthima stellera stellera (Eschscholtz, 1821). The more famous Common Five-ring Y. baldus (Fabricius, 1775), occurs in the Philippines only in Balabac, Palawan as ssp Y. baldus selinuntius Fruhstorfer, 1911. Found this five-ringer sipping water from a leaf just after the early morning rain.
