A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Sceloporus undulatus
Very small, walking on a split rail fence in Cape Henlopen State Park
Yea, males have the brightest, and some populations have some black as well as blue, or it might be more turquoise. Sometimes females have blue too though, but just a bit.
I'm more of a birder so I wouldn't know where to look. I need to start doing these trips with other people. I would see many more things and learn much more. I'll do some research and look for both the lizard and the snake this summer when go back there. Didn't realize the lizard has a blue underside.
No problem. Cape Henlopen is a nice place. There are Hognose Snakes there, too.
The closest reference I could get for your area was this NJ ref. I've been told that there's a lot of new DNA work going on with S. undulatus subspecies though. They are cool lizards though, and this little guy looks like a young one. Cool spotting!
