Eastern Fence Lizard

Sceloporus undulatus

Description:

Medium-sized lizard, usually brown, mottled with black. Males in breeding colors have bright blue or turquoise throat and sides.

Habitat:

Found this one basking on an ornamental boulder alongside a road into Bear Creek Nature Center. Mixed conifer and oak woodland adjacent to a riparian corridor with periodic open areas.

Notes:

Very common species along the Front Range.
