Black-necked Stilt

Himantopus mexicanus

Description:

Shoreline bird. Small body for it's long pink to red legs. White across part of the face, neck and underside, plus white patch above the eye. Black around eyes, back of neck and wings. Long black pointed bill. The tail is white with pale grey banding.

Habitat:

Estuaries, salt ponds, lagoons and mudflats.

Notes:

Spotted this in lagoon north of Oyster Bay and south of Oakland Airport. More numerous when tide is low, have also spotted some swimming when tide is higher. 3rd photo is including some sandpipers
