Cool find. I'm pretty sure this a funnel weaver (family Agelenidae) based on the build and pattern. They can resemble wolf spiders, though the eyes would tell them apart right away (not visible in this image). In California, both genuses Hololena and Rualena can look like this. Possibly Novalena too, though I've never seen one so I don't know. Here's a Hololena on BugGuide for reference:
