Spur–winged plover

Vanellus miles novaehollandiae

Description:

We were driving on a gravel road by Waimakariri river, when we spotted a tiny creature running in front to our car, and suddenly -as we approached- it sit down, on the gravels. We stopped and went to check, and we discovered a baby plover sitting in the middle of the road, almost invisible due to it's plumage and tiny size. I picked it up, checked if it was OK, and it's parents came and started calling to their chick with very lound and angry long sounds and the male was running up and down the road, prettending it was hurt...We released it on the road, and it's parents took it away...
