I can't tell what kind of newt it is but according to wikipedia; to tell the difference between a smooth newt and a palmate newt you can look at the throat of the newt. If it's spotted then it's a smooth newt and if it's plain then it's a palmate. From a google image search I think the rarer, great crested newt has a brighter yellow underside but also a spotted throat. We don't have salamanders here, I think it's a smooth newt but no 100% sure
