Juvenile Barramundi Cod

Chromileptes altivelis

Description:

This grouper is listed as an endangered species under the 'Vulnerable to extinction category'. Because of its unique patterns, it is much sought after by the marine aquarium industry, and because of it's apparently tasty nature, by the spear fishing industry as well. It was a fantastic experience to get to see a juvenile in one of the local marine protected areas. This fish is also known as the humpback grouper, or panther grouper.
