Kittlitz's plover

Description:

Small plover, up to 15 cm in size from plover family (Charadriidae). This bird has a dark brown mantle, buff colored breast and whitish abdomen. It has characteristics black stripes extending across the forecrown and through the eyes. It has long dark legs.

Habitat:

Seen on shores of soda lake in central Kenya. Observed during four to five days of my stay on shores, in loosely congregated groups of various waders, gulls and cormorants.

Notes:

Other birds observed in this flocks were Common, Green, Wood and Marsh Sandpipers, Greenshanks, Ruffs, stilts and stints, as well as some Common and Three-banded plovers.
