What a beautiful snake - & a very educational post. Please can you complete the description as this will help other members of the community to distinguish these harmless mimics from the venomous viper species.

In general "Rear-fanged and aglyphous snakes are usually considered not dangerous to humans because of their limited capacity of injecting venom." I think the only thing that can be said is that it is almost certainly not highly venomous (deadly)...

Mayra, estou retirando minha sugestão de identificação. Esta serpente tem pupilas redondas, enquanto as jararacas tem pupilas verticais. Eu nunca tinha visto esta espécie antes!

Então não é uma Thamnodynastes, mas uma Bothrops jararaca.

Exatamente, é uma Jararaca! Foi em um sítio em Sáo Roque, a 40 minutos de Sao Paulo.
Só que náo sabia que era uma Jararaca e cheguei bem perto, qdo ela se armou para dar o bote, que percebi que podia ser venenosa.
Depois qdo mostrei as fotos para o caseiro ele me disse que era uma Jararaca!!! Olha que perigo corri!

Mayra, onde você fotografou esta cobra? Eu nunca tinha visto uma assim! Ela parece com uma jararaca!
