Blue Jay

Cyanocitta cristata

Description:

These jays are about 22–30 cm (9–12 in) in length. They have crests, which may be raised when they are being threatened or when excited. Plumage is blue on the back, wings and tail with strong black and white barring on the tail and wings. The face is white with a black collar which extends up the sides of the head.

Habitat:

This bird is quite adaptable and is found in many different habitats, including pine, deciduous, and mixed forests.

Notes:

I was photographing birds, mostly birds, in northern Minnesota this last week. This blue jay kept coming in to this feeder, but warily remained on the other side from where I was sitting. As a result, this is the best shot I got of him/her.
