Tricolored Heron

Egretta tricolor

Description:

Medium sized heron with a very long neck and long yellow legs. Bluish-gray plumage with some reddish or brownish highlights. Bicolored underparts (dark and light plumage). Yellow bill (nonbreeding plumage). Similar in size to the Snowy Egret.

Habitat:

Man-made freshwater lagoons.

Notes:

These were seen solo often hanging out with flocks of Snowy Egrets and Great Egrets. They were more shy and prefered to stay a distance away (hence the not-so-close pictures).
