A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ganoderma sp.
Ganoderma have large, leathery, woody brackets. The fruit bodies typically grow in a fan-like form on the trunks of living or dead trees. This one was at least 10 inches in size.
Spotted growing on a fallen tree in a dense forest at Bent of the River Audubon.
Ganoderma fungi are economically important in that they are used in medicine, are useful in bioremediation, and have bioactive compounds.
