Chickweed

Stellaria sp.

Description:

Small white flower, approximately 1/2-3/4 inch in size. Five petals, but they are so deeply cleft that it looks like there are 10 of them.

Habitat:

Growing on the side of a stream in a mixed forest.

Notes:

A source of food for people and animals. Chickweed stays green under the snow, so can be important for winter survival of some animals.
