Peacock

Pavo cristatus

Description:

The peacock was once considered a sacred animal in India. Who killed a peacock would be sentenced to death. Today this custom does not exist already, but still dozens of peacocks walking freely by certain Hindu temples and are fed by priests.

Habitat:

India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Open forests, secondary forests, orchards and fields around settlements, up to 2000 meters of altitude.
