Description:

Wings chocolate brown. Fore wings have an irregular golden band below and smaller yellow areas above. Hind wings plain above except for white fringe; large, silvery-white irregular spot below. ~45 mm wingspan

Habitat:

Open area adjacent to large pond, deciduous pasture, and farm. This one was photographed while nectaring on blue salvia.

Notes:

This picture shows the distinct field mark for the species is the distinct silvery markings while the insect is at rest. Photographed in Burke County, GA near community of St. Clair.
