Charadrius wilsonia
Order: Charadriformes Family: Charadriidae These little shorebirds were either in nonbreeding (first picture) or breeding third picture) plumage. They nest on barren to densely vegetated substrate just beyond the high-tide line. There are around three subspecies of the Wilson's Plover and are considered surrogate species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the beach-nesting birds. The U.S. Shorebird Plan lists this species as a Species of High Concern (Category 4) due to declining populations. They either nest in isolated pairs or in loose colonies. The bird on the right in the last picture is actually a Dunlin. Shorebirds can be hard to identify just based on appearance.
