Procyon lotor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raccoon Brown and black, masked face and ringed tail
Woodlands or sparsely wooded areas. Raccoons depend on vertical structures to climb when threatened so they avoid open terrain and also areas with high concentrations of beech trees. The bark is too smooth on a beech for them to climb.
I watched these 3 baby raccoon come out every day to look for bird seed. They couldn't wait until dark, they started coming out in late afternoon and eventually came out around noon. I am standing only a few yards away from them.

Haha so true sarah. I could write a whole library of children's books with the things that go on here.
When do they not get into trouble, sounds like your experience with this lot would make a fantastic story :-)
