Klipspringer

Oreotragus oreotragus

Description:

A small antelope that stands on the tips of its toes, allowing it to stand with all 4 legs on a coin-sized ledge. In some populations, both the male and female have small horns; in others, only males do. They are extremely agile and well camoflagued, being a sandy-grey colour matching many of the rocky outcrops they live on.

Habitat:

Rocky outcrops and surrounding bush all over southern and eastern Africa.

Notes:

The klipspringers in this rocky park are a favourite food of the large but difficult to spot leopard population.
