Strawberry guava

Psidium cattleianum

Description:

Waiawī is Hawaiian for strawberry or lemon guava. The fruits are totally edible and range from sweet to spicy on the inside, with tart skin. This tree was relatively short, about 6' tall.

Habitat:

Spotted near the active volcano, surrounded by rainforest, in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. It's native to southeastern Brazil.

Notes:

In Hawai'i, waiawī is notoriously invasive.
