Golden-crowned Sparrow

Zonotrichia atricapilla

Description:

Smooth unstriped breast, gold patch on crown are good ways to id this sparrow that does not nest in the area I live, but does nest in BC. Winter plumage (in this spotting!) is duller than in breeding plumage.

Habitat:

Winters in dense woodlands, tangles and brush. Breeds in the higher elevations.
