Silver-washed fritillary

Argynnis paphia

Description:

Large fritillary, about 6 to 7 cm in wingspan, female - lively orange with black patterned spots on upper side. There is noticeable sheen of green underside the wings in first pic.

Habitat:

Found on montane pastures of Jura range, at about 1600 of altitude, above treeline and on edges of wooded areas; sharing these with many Apollos, other fritillaries and arguses.
