Hi Torrey, this looks like a Midden (Pack Rat/Wood Rat house)
Hi there. Whenever you spot something that's FROM an animal (such as feces, tracks, a web, a nest, etc.), it can go in the category for that animal. Since this appears to belong to a mammal, I've gone ahead and have moved it to Mammals for you. Great job with the "Nests, hives, bowers" mission, but also consider the "Signs of Wildlife" mission for this type of spotting:

It is about 4 feet across and two feet high, out in the chaparral.
Was this on the ground? How big is it? I think it might be a pack-rat nest.
