Spindalis portoricencis
This beautiful bird is endemic of Puerto Rico. The male has a black head with one white stripe over each eye and and another white stripe under the eyes. The upper belly and the breast are yellow, the lower belly is whitish, and you can see an orange spot on the ventral part of his neck.The dorsal part of the neck forms an orange stripe and is follow by an olive green back. The dorsal part of the wings are black with white borders. The female has the same pattern but the pigmentation is not as intense, and does not shows the orange spot, nor the stripe on her neck. La Reina Mora es endémica de Puerto Rico. El macho presenta una coloración bien intensa. La parte superior del vientre es amarillo y su pecho también, la parte baja del vientre es blancuzca y tiene una mancha anaranjada en la parte central del cuello. La cabeza es negra y presenta 2 líneas blancas en cada lado del rostro, una pasa por encima de los ojos y otra por debajo, la parte dorsal del cuello es una línea ancha anaranjada, la espalda es color verde oliva y la parte dorsal de las alas es negra con bordes blancos. La hembra presenta el mismo patrón de plumas pero una pigmentación más tenue.
