blue dragonfly

Description:

Some of the larger dragonflies I've ever seen. Many of them. Blue.

Habitat:

Flying around across the surface of a high mountain, crater-filling lagoon in western Guatemala.

Notes:

The lagoon is/was an important place for Mayan ceremonies. I had just missed a big event by a day or two and there were still many flower pyres just out beyond the shore.

The largest ones are darners, I am unsure what the smaller species are. There are also several Damselflies in the pictures.

It is a species of darner, family Aeshnidae. I am unfamiliar with the species there in Guatemala though.
