Big Poplar Sphinx

Pachysphinx occidentalis

Description:

A large moth with wings shaped like a cottonwood leaf and patterns resembling cottonwood bark. Back wings are dark red.

Habitat:

Near a light at night. Probably from the Carolina poplar trees or the cottonwood forest nearby.

Notes:

Flashed its red color when disturbed.
