Orelha-de-pau

Pycnoporus sp.

Description:

Very large, soft bodied fungi growing on the trunk of a living but worn out tree.

Habitat:

Spotted in a trail inside a well preserved secondary forest.

Notes:

Orelha-de-pau ("wood ear") is the portuguese generic name of a number of fungi that grow on living or dead tree trunks. Some sources refer to them as genus Pycnoporus. Of course, I'd like to hear from the fungi experts about this ID.
