Monarch, larvae

Danaus plexippus

Description:

Monarch larvae, one regular one and one dark phase.

Habitat:

Open areas, roadsides. Just about anywhere during migration.

Notes:

I have reared hundreds of monarch larvae over the years but only ever came across a dark phase larva a few times. The larvae were perfectly healthy, and pupated as usual. A normal colored monarch always eclosed.
