Eastern Cave Bat

Vespadelus troughtoni

Description:

I found this little bat last night.. It is only 2.5 cm long. I don't know if it is a baby or a small bat, but it does not fly away.. I will bring it to a vet.

Thanks Scott... but I don't think it is an eastern cave bat. They have larger ears and a longer nose.

That looks close too! Stuffed if I know... you probably need to be an expert to figure it out. ; )

Shanna... Could it be a little bentwing Bat (Miniopterus australis) http://australianmuseum.net.au/Little-Be...

I've been reading up on bats in my Qld Museum book 'Wildlife of Greater Brisbane'... here's a tentative ID: Little Broad-nosed Bat (Scotorepens greyi). The book says "Body 45-55mm, brown fur with reddish tinge on back, underside lighter brown with dark brown base... young are born in November." The face and tail look right. Take a look and see what you think.

Little Batman has left the building... He was checked out and I let him go last night.. We think he was lying on the ground and could not start from there. He was dehydrated, but after a night and a day rest he was happy to fly away... :)
