Malabar Banded Peacock

Description:

Malabar Banded Peacock is a butterfly belonging to the group papilionidae which primarily consist of large butterflies. It has a beautiful Green and an eye catching shiny Aqua green band with a beautiful tail. The underside also shows an orange spot on the hind wing area.

Habitat:

It mostly dwells in lush dense forest areas or places with dense vegetation. Fruit trees welcome the butterflies, This species was spotted feeding on Sapodilla (Manilkara Zapota). Mostly found in Kerala during October to February.

Notes:

The butterfly displays the colored wings to ward off predators.
