Elm leaf beetle

Xanthogaleruca luteola

Description:

A small leaf eating beetle introduced with our elm trees and sometimes causing serious defoliation to elm trees (only) in suburban streets and parks.

Habitat:

Elm pest species

Notes:

There seems to be very few around this year. Bug guide http://bugguide.net/node/view/105144 recognizes two binomial names, using Xanthogaleruca luteola and discounts Pyrrhalta luteola without giving much reason.
