Red Mangrove

Rhizophora mangle

Description:

This mangrove species is differentiated from White Mangrove (Laguncularia racemosa), which also has aerial prop roots by the pointed leaves and the propagules I found nearby. The second photo shows very young ones whose stems still look like the propagules they grew from.

Habitat:

Salt marsh area among lime rock and oyster shells near salt or brackish water.
