Juvenile - in December! Although Goldfinches breed from April to August the early broods get their red faces in summer with the later broods getting them in October. Perhaps the parents of this one lost their nest in the summer fires but escaped to start again. I keep thinking I see juvenile Goldfinches and say to myself "no, it must be something else" but this proves it isn't.
