Osteopilus septentrionalis
Amphibians: Any cold-blooded vertebrate, of the class Amphibia, typically living on land, but breeding in water. There aquatic larvae, ( tadpoles ), undergo metamorphosis into the adult form. The class includes the newts and salamanders, frogs and toads, and caecilians. Class: Amphibia Order: Anura Family: Hylidae Genus: Osteopilus The Cuban tree frog, is an amphibian, native to the Caribbean region of the Western Hemisphere. It is the largest tree frog, in North America. The Cuban tree frog, ranges in size from 3 to 5.5 inches. It has a rough, warty skin. It's toe pads, are much larger than those other tree frogs. It varies in color from, olive-brown or bronze to gray, or grayish-white. Many individuals, have darker splotches on the back, and some splotchy banding, on the legs. During the night, they forage for insects, around sources of artificial light. They will eat anything they can overpower and fit into there mouths, including: snails, spiders, insects, other frogs, snakes, lizards, small crustaceans, and small birds. The skin on its body, was different shades of brown. It had large bulging eyes. The eyes, were black and gold in color. It had two hind legs, and two front legs. It's skin was smooth. The color of its rear legs, was in two colors. Medium brown for the skin, and a little darker brown, for the horizontal bands, that were on the rear legs.
This large brown, Cuban tree frog, was resting on the front door, of my house. Cuban tree frogs, are known to inhabit a variety of habitats, including: estuaries, low-density suburban developments, small towns, agriculture areas, and lowland forests and swamps. Within these habitats, they can be found in damp, shady areas, particularly around shrubs and trees, by cisterns, rain barrels, and buildings.
I went outside at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. I saw a large, brown, Cuban tree frog, resting on the front door, of my house. The skin on its body, was different shades of brown. It had large, bulging eyes. The eyes were black and gold, in color. It had two hind legs, and two front legs. It's skin was smooth. The color of its rear legs, was in two colors. Medium brown for the skin, and a little darker brown, for the horizontal bands, that were on the rear legs.
